This trial tests whether a special MRI scan can show how well the drug abiraterone works against high-risk prostate cancer before surgery. If you have high-risk prostate cancer that hasn't spread, you might be able to take abiraterone for a few months and then have a prostatectomy, with the MRI helping your doctor see the drug's effect.

Who can take part

  • You must be 18 or older with high-risk prostate cancer that has not spread to distant organs.
  • You need to have prostate cancer tissue from a biopsy (done within the past year) that can be studied.
  • You must be planning to have surgery to remove your prostate (radical prostatectomy).
  • You must be in generally good health, able to walk and care for yourself, and have adequate blood counts and kidney/liver function.
  • You cannot have any metal implants (like hip replacements or pacemakers) that would make an MRI unsafe.
  • You cannot have had any previous treatment for prostate cancer (except certain hair-loss medications stopped at least 3 weeks ago).
