Comparing PET and MRI scans before prostate cancer surgery
Part of Cancer, Kidney & urinary clinical trials.
This trial tests if a special PET scan (PSMA-PET) plus MRI is better than MRI alone at finding the full extent of high-risk prostate cancer before surgery. It aims to improve surgical planning by checking scan results against the removed prostate tissue.

Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with prostate cancer and are scheduled for surgery to remove your prostate.
- You already had a PSMA-PET scan as part of your regular care.
- At least 4 weeks have passed since your last prostate biopsy.
- Your cancer is considered high-risk, meaning it has a high Gleason score (8 or above), is likely growing outside the prostate (stage T3), or your PSA is 20-49.
- You are 18 or older and can provide written consent.
- You do not have metal implants or other reasons that prevent an MRI or PET scan (like claustrophobia or severe back pain).
- You have not had hormone therapy (anti-testosterone treatment) for your prostate cancer.
- You have not had a TUR-P procedure in the last 6 months.
- Your cancer has not spread to bones, organs, or lymph nodes outside the pelvis.

This trial compares two imaging techniques—PSMA PET/CT and MRI—to see which one better finds and outlines prostate cancer tumors. You'll receive both scans to help doctors understand which method works best for newly diagnosed prostate cancer.
This trial tests whether a special PET/MRI scan can better see the extent of prostate cancer before surgery. It aims to help doctors plan more precise treatment.
This study tests whether a special scan (PSMA PET/MRI) combined with a standard MRI can better detect prostate cancer. It is for men who have not had a biopsy yet and are suspected of having prostate cancer.
This trial compares two types of PET/CT scans (using different radioactive tracers) to see which is better at finding prostate cancer, tracking its return, or spotting spread. It's for people with prostate cancer or those being checked for recurrence after treatment.
This trial tests if a special scan called PSMA PET can help diagnose prostate cancer in men whose MRI results are not clear. It may help avoid unnecessary biopsies.
This trial tests if a special PET scan using PSMA-1007 can find prostate cancer spread in men who have just been diagnosed with high-risk prostate cancer and plan to have surgery. The scan may help doctors better understand the cancer before removing the prostate and lymph nodes.
