Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are being treated for an infection at Imperial College NHS Trust.
  • You have received a beta-lactam antibiotic (like penicillin or amoxicillin) in the last 2 days, or are about to start one.
  • If you can't give consent, you have delirium from infection, a brain infection, or are critically ill on a breathing machine.
  • You do not have severe anemia, a bleeding disorder, or a terminal illness under palliative care.
  • You are not in another trial that blocks this one, and you are not in prison or under legal protection.
