Magnesium sulfate for preeclampsia in overweight women

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy).
  • You are between 20 and 40 years old.
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is over 25 (you are overweight or obese).
  • You are at least 28 weeks pregnant.
  • You do not have conditions like myasthenia gravis, severe kidney failure, or heart block that would make magnesium sulfate unsafe.

Comparing two seizure prevention drugs for women with severe preeclampsia

This trial compares a common seizure medication (levetiracetam) with the standard drug (magnesium sulfate) to see which works better at preventing seizures in women with severe preeclampsia, a complication of pregnancy. If you are pregnant or have recently given birth and have severe preeclampsia or HELLP syndrome, you may be able to join.
