Cross-leg bone graft for large tibial defects

This trial tests using a piece of your fibula (a bone in your lower leg) with its blood vessels, taken from your healthy leg and moved across to repair a large shin bone defect on the injured leg. It is for people with big bone gaps (12–26 cm), heavy skin and muscle damage, and poor blood flow in the injured leg.

Who can take part

  • You have a large tibial (shin) bone defect between 12 and 26 cm long.
  • You have extensive soft tissue (skin and muscle) damage near the bone defect.
  • You have poor blood supply in the injured leg, confirmed by CT angiography (a special scan).
  • You do not have severe soft tissue damage or poor blood supply in your other leg.
  • You do not have medical problems that would make long anesthesia (over 10 hours) risky.
