Who can take part

  • You are 21 or older and have been admitted to the hospital with a heart attack or unstable angina (acute coronary syndrome).
  • You agree to take part in the study and sign a consent form.
  • You do not have cancer, an autoimmune or chronic inflammatory disease (like rheumatoid arthritis or lupus).
  • You do not have an allergy, parasitic infection, asthma, or a condition with high eosinophil levels.
  • You are not pregnant, and you do not have severe kidney or liver disease, or a life expectancy of less than 6 months.
  • You have not had a heart attack in the last month and are not on long-term corticosteroid therapy.
