Who can take part
- You are 18 years or older.
- You are scheduled for heart surgery through a cut in the breastbone (sternotomy).
- You are generally healthy or have mild to severe but stable health issues (ASA class I, II, or III).
- You are not taking blood thinners (like warfarin) and do not have a bleeding problem.
- You have no infection where the numbing injection would be given.
- You are not allergic to local anesthetics (numbing medicines).
