Who can take part

  • Age 45 to 85 years old
  • Having planned (non-emergency) coronary artery bypass graft surgery
  • Your overall health is stable or only slightly limited (ASA class 1, 2, or 3)
  • No known allergy to numbing medicines like lidocaine
  • No serious bleeding problems or very low platelet count
  • No infection on your back where the injection would be given
