Bone graft trial for children with cleft palate

Alveolar Cleft

This trial tests a new way to repair a gap in the upper jawbone (called an alveolar cleft) using thin layers of bone, called cortical shells, taken from the patient's own body. It is for children who have not had this surgery before and who are generally healthy.

Who can take part

  • You are between 8 and 15 years old.
  • You have a gap in your upper jaw on one side only (unilateral alveolar cleft).
  • You have good oral hygiene and are in good general health.
  • You do not have an infection or opening (fistula) in the roof of your mouth.
  • You do not have a cleft on both sides (bilateral) or a syndrome linked to cleft.
  • You have not had a failed attempt to repair this same gap in the past.
