Who can take part

  • You have chronic pain that is moderate to severe and has lasted at least 3 months.
  • You are comfortable in an MRI scanner (no claustrophobia) and have no metal implants or devices that prevent MRI.
  • You are not pregnant and can have a CT scan if needed.
  • You do not have an active brain or nervous system condition (like Parkinson's, epilepsy, or Alzheimer's).
  • You have not had a head injury with more than 10 minutes of unconsciousness.
  • You do not have a history of alcohol or drug dependence.
