  • You are having heart bypass surgery for the first time.
  • You are between 50 and 85 years old.
  • You are able to follow instructions and cooperate during the study.
  • You do not have broken bones in your face, chest, or ribs.
  • You do not have kidney failure, nerve/muscle disease, or memory problems.
  • You have not had a stroke, blood clot, or been on a breathing machine for more than 24 hours.
