Who can take part
- Be between 50 and 85 years old
- Be in the ICU at one of the two participating hospitals in Beijing
- Have sepsis with heart muscle weakness diagnosed within the last 24 hours
- Have a SOFA score between 2 and 12 (a measure of organ failure severity)
- Not have certain other heart conditions like a recent heart attack or cardiomyopathy
- Not be pregnant, breastfeeding, or on certain immune-suppressing medications
