This study looks at how certain learning mechanisms in the brain (called Pavlovian conditioning) influence your ability to control alcohol or drug use. It may help explain why some people have trouble stopping, and could lead to better treatments. You'll fill out questionnaires and likely have a brain scan (MRI).

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 65 years old.
  • You have a moderate to severe alcohol or drug use disorder (like cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine, or methamphetamine).
  • You currently drink alcohol and are NOT trying to quit.
  • You do NOT have bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, severe depression, or suicidal thoughts.
  • You do NOT use other drugs heavily (like heroin, sedatives, or hallucinogens).
