Who can take part
- You have a type of esophageal cancer called squamous cell carcinoma that has spread to nearby lymph nodes but not to distant organs, and it cannot be surgically removed.
- You have not had any prior treatment for your cancer, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or immunotherapy.
- Your overall health is good (ECOG score 0 or 1), meaning you are fully active or able to do light work.
- You have at least one tumor that can be measured on a CT scan or enlarged lymph nodes that are at least 1.5 cm in size.
- Your blood counts and organ functions (kidney, liver, thyroid) are within acceptable ranges, and you are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have not lost more than 20% of your body weight in the last 3 months, and your nutritional status is stable.
