Who can take part
- You have been diagnosed with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma that is locally advanced (stage T3 or resectable T4) and has not spread to distant sites.
- You are at least 18 years old and your overall health is good (ECOG score 0 or 1).
- The tumor is 10 cm or smaller in length and does not involve the dentate line (the line where the esophagus meets the stomach).
- You have not had previous chemotherapy, radiation, or immunotherapy for this cancer.
- You do not have serious heart, lung, liver, kidney, or blood disorders, active infections, or autoimmune diseases requiring treatment in the last 2 years.
