Who can take part

  • You or your child are at least 7 years old
  • You have sickle cell anemia (HbSS or HbSβ0 thalassemia) and get regular blood transfusions
  • You have had transfusions every 2 to 4 weeks for the past 6 months
  • If you take iron chelation medicine, you have been on a stable dose for at least 3 months
  • You are not pregnant or planning to become pregnant in the next 14 months
