This study tests a program to help American Indian/Alaska Native adults with type 2 diabetes and a young family member (10-25 years old) work together to improve diabetes management. You and a youth in your home would join as a team and be assigned to one of two support programs.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You identify as American Indian or Alaska Native.
  • You live within 1 hour of the Oyate Health Center in Rapid City, South Dakota.
  • A doctor has confirmed you have type 2 diabetes.
  • You are the caregiver for a 10- to 25-year-old living in your home.
  • You agree to join all study activities and be randomly assigned to a program group.
