Left back nerve block and heart function study

This trial tests whether a nerve block injected near the back muscles on the left side can help protect the heart during left-sided chest surgery. If you are having planned (not emergency) surgery on your left chest and are between 18 and 75 years old, you may be able to join.

  • You are having planned (non-emergency) surgery on the left side of your chest
  • You are between 18 and 75 years old
  • You are in generally good health (classified as ASA I-III)
  • You are not taking strong pain medications daily (chronic opioids)
  • You have no bleeding problems or infections near the injection site
