Who can take part

  • You are planning to have coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) that uses a heart-lung machine.
  • Your heart's main pumping ability is good (left ventricular ejection fraction over 50%).
  • You do not have moderate or severe heart valve disease.
  • You have not had previous open-heart surgery through the front of your chest.
  • You are not allergic to the study drugs.
