Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You have a suspicious spot on your skin that might be melanoma, and surgery is already planned to remove it.
  • The spot is between 2 and 20 millimeters wide (about the size of a pencil tip to a large pea).
  • The spot is not on your genitals, palms, soles, mouth, nose, or eyes, and not on scarred or injured skin.
  • You do not have very dark skin (Fitzpatrick skin type V or VI).
  • The spot has not been tattooed, marked with a pen, or covered with hair that can't be moved.
