Who can take part
- You must have a type of kidney cancer called clear cell renal cell carcinoma, which may have some sarcomatoid features.
- Your tumor must be locally advanced (spread near the kidney) or considered too difficult to remove by your surgeon.
- You may have small spots of cancer that have spread, but they must be very small (under 10 mm for soft tissue or under 15 mm for lymph nodes).
- You must be generally healthy enough for daily activities (ECOG score 0 or 1).
- You cannot have had any prior treatment for this kidney cancer, including surgery or radiation to the main tumor.
- You must not have serious heart, bleeding, or infection problems, and must have adequate kidney and liver function.
