Comparing two blood tests to guide iron treatment in dialysis patients

This trial tests whether a new blood test (reticulocyte hemoglobin) is better than the usual iron test (transferrin saturation) for guiding when to give iron to people on dialysis. Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You have been on hemodialysis (a machine that cleans your blood) for at least 6 months.
  • You have been taking EPO (a medicine to help your body make red blood cells) for at least 6 months.
  • Your hemoglobin level (a measure of red blood cells) is lower than 13 g/dL for men or 12 g/dL for women.
  • You do not have very high iron levels (ferritin over 800 or TSAT over 40%) in your blood.
  • You have not had major bleeding, a blood transfusion, or a recent heart attack or stroke in the past 6 months.
