This trial compares three surgical techniques to see which one best preserves or improves skin feeling after breast reconstruction with a DIEP flap (using your own tissue to rebuild the breast). You may join if you are having this type of reconstruction and do not have nerve problems or smoke.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are scheduled for a DIEP flap breast reconstruction (using your own belly tissue) that will not be completely hidden under the skin.
  • You do not smoke or use tobacco products.
  • You do not have nerve conditions such as diabetic neuropathy, alcoholism-related nerve damage, or nerve damage from chemotherapy or other medications.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of surgery.
  • You can communicate in the language used by the study team.
