Who can take part

  • You have a diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) using the Rome IV criteria, or you are a healthy volunteer without gut symptoms.
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are willing to undergo a probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) – a special microscope that looks at the lining of your gut.
  • You have normal blood clotting and can safely have a biopsy (tissue sample) taken.
  • You are not allergic to fluorescein sodium dye, do not have severe heart/lung/kidney disease, and have not taken certain anti-inflammatory drugs or antibiotics in the past year.
