Who can take part

  • You are scheduled to have a breast quadrantectomy (a type of breast-conserving surgery).
  • You are between 18 and 80 years old.
  • You are in generally good health (mild or no health problems).
  • Your body mass index (BMI) is less than 35.
  • You do not have any infections, bleeding disorders, or allergies to local anesthetics.
  • You do not have severe lung disease, sleep apnea, or a paralyzed diaphragm on one side.
