Who can take part

  • You are between 20 and 65 years old and generally healthy.
  • You need a first-time root canal on an upper first molar (not a re-treatment).
  • The tooth has been diagnosed with an infection in the nerve (pulp necrosis) and a small pocket of infection around the root tip (asymptomatic apical periodontitis).
  • The tooth has a second small canal on the cheek side (MB2), as seen on X-rays.
  • You have little or no pain before the procedure.
  • Any infection pocket around the root tip is smaller than 5 mm.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and have not taken narcotics, antibiotics, sedatives, or antidepressants in the past week.
