Who can take part

  • You are 70 years or older
  • You are having a major surgery on your hip, knee, or belly that requires at least one night in the hospital
  • Your surgery is planned (not an emergency)
  • You do not have dementia, a serious mental health condition, or Parkinson's disease
  • You are willing and able to drink a special shake (no food allergies, no dislike of flavors, okay with caffeine in it)
  • Your BMI is 45 or lower
  • You do not have insulin-dependent diabetes or an eating disorder
