Who can take part

  • You are 65 years or older
  • You are scheduled to have surgery for a hip fracture
  • You or your legal representative can agree to participate
  • Your fracture is not due to cancer or a disease
  • You do not have a severe muscle or nerve disease
  • You do not have an active infection
  • You have not had a previous hip surgery that is being revised
  • You do not have a leg amputation or a severe leg deformity that prevents a thigh muscle ultrasound
