Helping small babies in the NICU with special carrying

Group 1: Carrier Care (CC) Followed by Skin-to-Skin Care (SSC) Followed by Family ChoiceGroup 2: Skin-to-Skin Care (SSC) Followed by Carrier Care (CC) Followed by Family Choice

This study tests whether a special carrying approach helps small, stable babies in the NICU grow and bond with their caregivers. It is for babies who weigh at least 4 pounds, are expected to stay in the hospital for at least 15 days, and do not need oxygen or breathing support.

Who can take part

  • Your baby is currently in the hospital
  • Your baby is expected to stay in the hospital for at least 15 days
  • Your baby weighs at least 1800 grams (about 4 pounds) right now
  • Your baby has been stable for the past 48 hours (no serious breathing pauses, slow heart rate, or oxygen drops)
  • Your baby does not need oxygen or a breathing machine and does not have a special central IV line
