Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older, and for head and neck cancer, under 71; for esophageal cancer, under 76.
  • Your cancer must be advanced and confirmed by biopsy: either head and neck cancer or stage IV esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
  • You must have had at least one prior treatment that didn't work or you couldn't tolerate (platinum chemo for head and neck; an immunotherapy for esophageal cancer).
  • You must have at least one tumor that the doctor can inject into, either a measurable lesion (head and neck) or a swollen lymph node near the skin (esophageal).
  • You must be generally active and able to care for yourself (ECOG score 0-1 or 0-2 depending on cancer type).
