Using AI to read kidney cancer CT scans for better staging

This study uses a computer program (deep learning) to look at your kidney CT scan and tell if your cancer is more advanced (stage T3) or earlier (stage T1-T2). The goal is to help doctors plan the best treatment for you.

Who can take part

  • You must have had surgery to remove your kidney cancer, and it was confirmed as renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in the lab.
  • You had a contrast-enhanced CT scan before surgery at Peking University First Hospital, with very thin slices (1 mm or less).
  • Your cancer stage after surgery is either pT1a, pT1b, pT2a, pT2b (cancer still inside the kidney) or pT3a (cancer has spread just outside the kidney).
  • Your CT images are clear and free of major artifacts or blurring.
