Who can take part

  • You have a positive AMA blood test (a marker for PBC)
  • Your alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level has been normal on repeated tests
  • You have not been diagnosed with PBC, autoimmune hepatitis, or primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • You are not taking medications like ursodeoxycholic acid, fibrates, biologics, or steroids
  • You do not have a serious illness that would make a liver biopsy risky, and you are not pregnant
