Prednisone Plus Ursodeoxycholic Acid for PBC Patients
Treatments studied
Part of Digestive system clinical trials.
This trial tests adding prednisone (a steroid) to ursodeoxycholic acid (a bile acid medicine) for people with primary biliary cholangitis who have a specific type of liver inflammation. The goal is to see if the combination works better at controlling the disease than standard care.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 75 years old
- You have primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) with moderate to severe interface hepatitis (inflammation in the liver that damages bile ducts) that shows up on a liver biopsy
- Your alkaline phosphatase (ALP) level is high (more than 1.67 times the normal limit)
- You are not currently taking ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), steroids (like prednisone), or other immune-suppressing drugs
- You do not have other liver diseases, severe liver problems (like fluid buildup or confusion), or serious heart, kidney, or other health issues

This trial is testing whether adding fenofibrate to the standard PBC medicine ursodeoxycholic acid helps people with primary biliary cholangitis. It's a real-world study, meaning it looks at how treatments work in everyday practice. You can join only if you have already completed an earlier fenofibrate study.
This research study tracks how well Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) responds to standard medication (UDCA) and what happens to patients' health over time. It may help doctors understand which treatments work best for different people.
This study tests whether fenofibrate, a medicine that lowers fats in the blood, can help people with primary biliary cholangitis (a chronic liver disease) who haven't had treatment before. It aims to see if it is safe and effective as a first treatment option.
This study tests fenofibrate, a medicine that may help lower liver enzymes in people with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC). It looks at how well the drug works in everyday medical practice.
This trial tests whether adding fenofibrate to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can improve liver test results in people with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) who did not respond enough to UDCA alone. It aims to see if the combination works better and is safe for adults with persistent, abnormal liver markers.
This trial looks at whether slowly reducing UDCA (a medication for primary biliary cholangitis) is safe and still helpful in people whose liver tests have improved. It may help some patients avoid higher doses if their disease is well controlled.
