Using AI to improve prostate cancer detection from MRI

This trial tests whether an artificial intelligence (AI) program can help doctors decide when a prostate biopsy is needed. It is for men who have had a prostate MRI that shows either a low-risk (PIRADS 1-2) or uncertain (PIRADS 3) spot, along with a higher-than-normal PSA level. You may qualify if you have certain risk factors like a high PSA density, suspicious digital rectal exam, or family history of prostate cancer.

Who can take part

  • You are 40 years old or older.
  • You have had a prostate MRI in the last 12 weeks.
  • You have a PIRADS 3 lesion and a PSA level of 3.0 ng/mL or higher (if 40-75 years old) or 4.0 ng/mL or higher (if older than 75).
  • OR you have a PIRADS 1-2 lesion with elevated PSA and at least one additional risk factor (like high PSA density, suspicious DRE, positive biomarker test, Black/African American ancestry, certain genetic mutations, strong family history, or large PSA rise over time).
  • You have not been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer (Gleason score 7 or higher) before.
  • You are not currently on active treatment or surveillance for prostate cancer.
