Who can take part
- You have at least 20 natural teeth (not counting wisdom teeth).
- You are generally healthy with no conditions like diabetes, immune problems, or cancer.
- You have not taken antibiotics or had gum treatment in the last 6 months.
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
- If you have gum disease, you are either a current regular smoker (10+ cigarettes/day for 5+ years) or have never smoked.
- If you are in the healthy control group, you have no signs of gum disease, with shallow gum pockets and no bone loss.
