Who can take part

  • You are generally healthy (no major health conditions like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • You have gum disease (periodontitis) or have healthy gums
  • You have at least 20 natural teeth
  • You have not used antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or antioxidants in the last 6 months
  • You have not had gum treatment (non-surgical in 6 months, surgical in 12 months)
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or a heavy drinker
