  • You have a long-lasting anal fissure that has not healed on its own
  • You have muscle spasms in the anal sphincter
  • You have no other serious bowel or anal conditions (for example, inflammatory bowel disease, fistula, or severe hemorrhoids)
  • You have not had previous surgery on the anal canal
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
