Testing a diabetes drug to slow kidney disease progression

This study tests whether a common diabetes medication (SGLT2 inhibitor) can help people with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) maintain kidney function longer. If you have fast-growing kidney cysts and are between 18 and 60 years old, this trial may be an option.

Who can take part

  • You have ADPKD (a genetic condition causing kidney cysts) and are between 18 and 60 years old.
  • Your kidney function (eGFR) is at least 25 mL/min, and if you are 40–60, it must be below 90.
  • Your kidney disease is growing quickly, as shown by a specific imaging class or genetic test.
  • If you take blood pressure medicines (ACE inhibitors or ARBs), the dose must have been stable for at least 4 weeks.
  • You have not used tolvaptan, a somatostatin drug, lithium, or an SGLT2 inhibitor in the last 3 months.
  • You do not have type 1 diabetes, a history of diabetic ketoacidosis, or an active kidney infection.
