How cold affects fat burning in men and women

This study looks at how your body's ability to burn fat during exercise changes when you are exposed to cold, and whether men and women respond differently. You will do two exercise tests in a cold room, and researchers will measure your fat burning.

Who can take part

  • You are between 18 and 40 years old.
  • Your weight has been stable (no change more than 5 pounds) in the last 6 months.
  • You exercise regularly (at least 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity each week).
  • You can avoid caffeine and alcohol for 24 hours before two study visits.
  • You do not use hormonal birth control, tobacco, nicotine, or recreational drugs.
  • You do not have any heart, lung, blood vessel, or metabolic disease, and are not pregnant or breastfeeding.
