Who can take part
- You are between 18 and 85 years old.
- You have a simple (closed, not open) fracture in the middle of your thigh or shin bone that was fixed with a metal rod during surgery.
- You are able to put weight on your leg as tolerated after surgery.
- You do not have diabetes, you do not smoke daily, and you are not taking certain medications like steroids, chemotherapy, or blood thinners.
- You are not taking vitamin D for medical reasons (but you can stop it for the study).
