Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • You can have a bunion (hallux valgus) or be in a healthy control group.
  • If you have a bunion, you need an X-ray from the last 3 months showing your big toe is angled at least 15 degrees inward.
  • You must be able to lie still during the measurement.
  • You cannot have had foot or ankle surgery or a serious injury in the last year.
  • You cannot have taken certain medications like cortisone in the last 6 months or specific antibiotics in the last 3 months.
  • You cannot have other serious foot deformities or professional athletic training.
