Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have beta-thalassemia and need regular blood transfusions (6 to 30 units in the past 6 months, with no more than 42 days between transfusions).
  • You are generally healthy and active (ECOG score 0 or 1).
  • You have not used thalidomide, erythropoietin, or hydroxyurea in the past 6 months.
  • You are not pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study.
