- You are 18 or older
- You have osteoarthritis in your hip or knee
- You are scheduled for a first-time hip or knee replacement (not a revision)
- You do not have certain genetic connective tissue or metabolic diseases (like Ehlers-Danlos or gout)
- You have not had any previous surgeries on that joint that changed its shape or structure
