- You are 65 years old or older
- You are scheduled for elective coronary artery bypass graft surgery (heart bypass surgery) that uses a heart-lung machine
- You do not have a past or ongoing history of drug abuse
- You do not have a psychiatric disease or major confusion
- Your heart's pumping strength (ejection fraction) is at least 40%
- You do not have a severe heart block or a very slow heart rate (below 50 beats per minute)
