Who can take part

  • You are 65 years old or older.
  • You have sepsis or another type of shock that needs large amounts of fluids quickly.
  • You are expected to stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) for at least 3 days.
  • You do not have a serious skin condition or blood vessel disease that could interfere with the study measurements.
  • You do not have a condition that makes it unsafe to receive extra fluids, such as severe heart failure.
