- You are between 18 and 65 years old.
- You are having coronary artery bypass surgery (open-heart surgery).
- You will be on a breathing machine after surgery and then have it removed (extubated).
- You do not have a neuromuscular disease like Parkinson's or a history of stroke.
- You do not have head or neck deformities, swallowing problems, or a tracheostomy tube.
