Ultrasound to predict blood pressure drops during dialysis

This study uses an ultrasound of the heart to predict if a patient's blood pressure will drop dangerously when starting a type of kidney dialysis called continuous venovenous hemodiafiltration (CVVHDF). The goal is to help doctors prepare and prevent complications.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 years or older and in the intensive care unit (ICU)
  • Your doctors have decided you need a specific type of kidney dialysis (CVVHDF)
  • You have had a heart ultrasound (echocardiogram) with good image quality
  • Your legal representative has signed a consent form allowing you to join the study
  • You do not have a recent heart attack, severe heart valve disease, or fluid around the heart
  • You do not have a pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, or a mechanical heart pump
