  • Your child has been diagnosed with severe pneumonia (based on specific signs like trouble breathing, low oxygen, or infection in multiple lung areas).
  • The pneumonia started within the last 3 days (72 hours).
  • Your child has not yet had a bronchoscopic lavage (a procedure to wash out the lungs with a tiny camera).
  • Your child does not have a serious long-term condition like heart disease, lung problems from birth, cancer, or a weak immune system.
  • Your child has no reason that makes a bronchoscopy unsafe (like bleeding problems) and no foreign object or airway blockage.
