Who can take part

  • You are scheduled for an elective appendix removal at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.
  • You are between 21 and 40 years old.
  • You are male or a non-pregnant female (a pregnancy test will be done).
  • You have no other health problems and take no medications or recreational drugs.
  • Your BMI is between 18.5 and 25.
  • Your appendicitis is uncomplicated, confirmed by ultrasound or CT scan, and your white blood cell count is normal.
  • Your appendix is not perforated, and you have no other abdominal issues.
