  • You are currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
  • You are on a breathing machine (mechanically ventilated).
  • You have universal health insurance.
  • You are not on ECMO (a special heart-lung machine).
  • You are not breathing on your own without the ventilator for more than a brief test.
